MacBoom Pro

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this but more and more of the people I talk to seem to be switching to Macs lately. I was in PC World the other day dribbling over the Macbook Pro's and one of the blokes working there comes up to me and says, 'hope you don't want to buy one of those mate' apparently they're sold out nearly nationwide and not just on the Pros.

Give's me a warm, fuzzy feeling inside knowing that so many people have started to see the light.

I'd like to know how many of the Windows users who buy a Mac are using Mac OS X. If they're all just buying a Mac for the form factor and using Windows 100% of the time, I don't see the point. But you're right, it does seem to be happening more and more since the Intel switch, and the stats reflect that.

I think the real question is -- do we want Macs to become popular? How much market share is too much?

If everyone used macs, not only would it become a target for viruses, but we may lose that special-ness we have at the moment. For example, those Garageband loops would become useless, as EVERYONE would have heard them. Those Keynote presentations would no longer look so different and special compared to the powerpoint ones everyone is sick of. Then there is the quality control issues, and the fact that if Apple had cornered the market, they would be so busy maintaining the OS they won't have time to innovate as much as they currently do with OS X (or perhaps they will feel as though they no longer need to).

I'm always torn on this issue.

Currys Digital UK (part of PC World) are actively promoting Macs because they anticipate some a big consumer shift towards Apple when bootcamp is fully rolled out.

I met a guy last Friday who is a leading business innovator for Currys Digital. His recent experience tells him that consumers are becoming increasingly interested in the Macs for their stability and security, but don't want to lose out on PC software, which they believe, rightly or wrongly, may not be usable on Macs. Bootcamp seems to offer the perfect solution.

The bottom line is that Currys Digital are preparing themselves to enthusiastically promote Mac sales and provide alpha-rated customer support for repairs and Apple hardware/software upgrades.

A lot of people I know are considering Macs much more than they had previously. Part of it could be that XP has been dragged out for much longer than it should have been, and OS X looks and feels so much better. Also, people get sick of the same old same old happening in Windows - drivers, viruses, crashes, etc. They just need to see/use a Mac, then they realize that it really is better. Most PC users aren't the hardcore windows user type that will never switch - many want a computer that "just works" - and Macs do that.

That's _exactly_ what I think. I don't want the Marketshare too great, because of all those things TTC mentioned, for ex. the special-ness and the keynote presentations etc etc....

I don't care that much about the marker share being too great... maybe it is because I am still new to the Mac, but this is what I think - if Apple does one day become Microsoft-like, there will always be someone who will took Apple's current innovative place and fight against the by-then 'evil-apple'.

I believe that as long as there are innovative people, there will always be innovative products - the world is always changing, so will Microsoft, and so will Apple.
