This is just the start

Montreal is just the beginning. This saddens me to no end. I feel this was uncalled for at a sporting event. It's just plain poor sportsmanship.

obviously you're not a real sports fan. sporting events are a sort of regional form of nationalism to start with. this was bound to happen. but you're right, it's just the start. now american fans wills start booing canandien teams. then NY fans will start booing San Francisco and Chicago teams because of all the peace protesters in these cities. and then they'll play the game and somebody will win.

believe me, some sports fans boo at much more trivial things.

that would be true if it was the players doing it. but it was the fans.

Ed is right. sporting events are always vaguely about nationalism. so the canadians have an opinion, so what?

I just heard about it this morning. No biggie. The French piss us off so anti-French sentiment runs rampant. So we pissed the French-Canadians off, so they boo us, hey it's the goose/gander thing. Hardly worth worrying about. After all, if you're gonna boo another country, isn't what's going on something of importance enough to do it?

Now one venue that I think it would have been inappropriate is a Dixie Chicks concert Just kidding. No it would be something like Little League where it would invovle kids who might not understand the difference between people "booing the flag" vs people booing them.

Fans used/still can get people techincals at Basketball games. Plus, just look at English Football (Scoccer). Fans can hurt a team! Anyone who claims different has never played on a sports team.

absolutely. any adult who would boo at anything other than the adult umpire/referee at a kid's game is a poor example of a parent - i don't care which side of this issue they stand on.

I don't know what you have against me Fryke! How does it feel to hate someone who AGREES with your anti-war opinion?! It's positions like that that are really pushing me to the other side of the debate!

I am so GLAD that I am American/US citizen!
