| Windows linked to the severity of the Blackout ! According to computerworld, http://www.computerworld.com/securit...?SKC=home84510 The Blaster Worm that was made possible because of the holes in Windows security system contributed to the Blackout ! "The inability of critical control data to be exchanged quickly across the grid could have hampered the operators' ability to prevent the cascading effect of the blackout..."

| I always suspected MSB had a hand in the blackouts, especially since they peaked almost at the same time. And the DoJ is investing in Microsoft, right? I know one of the deptartments is, I just can't fathom why.

| Thats pure speculation, I'm no fan of Microsoft, but I will say they do get a lot of blame, not that they don't deserve it 90% of the time.

| Well, one could also argue that it's the operators' fault, because they _do_ use Windows in mission critical networks. Or even go as far as to say it's a capitalistic problem, because those operators have to be cheap and thus use 'standard' computer systems instead of customised solutions. Imagine there would be one monopolistic maker of household security systems. What if a bug were to be found in their systems? Hah! One way to unlock any household and get at what's in it. Nice, eh?

| My dad showed me a satellite photo, at night (in the US), of the United States during the blackouts. I'll try to get the URL from him and post it here. Pretty stunning!
