MacMini won't install Boot Camp?!?

Hi guys,

first post here. just received my new mini yesterday and have been trying to get boot camp installed. everytime i try to install it, it says "please update your system software before running bootcamp".

I've clicked on the blue apple (top left of screen) and done the software update. Here's the specs:

everything seems in order (checked the Boot ROM version and SMC version on the website, all seems up to date). I'm running OSX 10.4.8. I've tried 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 versions of Boot Camp.

i first tried installing boot camp and it gave me the "update" error. so i did the update process, rebooted the computer the right way and everything, ran boot camp again and it's like it's not registering the update..

any suggestions?

long shot, but repair permissions?

Applications/utilities/disk utility, select your hard drive, then repair permissions under first aid

bare in mind i'm rather new to Macs.

I tried the repair permissions thing, no luck.

what if i took a carbon copy of a friends macmini who's got bootcamp, osx and xp running fine? how hard is it to do this? perhaps you could point me in the direction of some instructions?

Here's my suggestion:
Yes, you can clone everything from your friend's Mac mini, if you really want to have the 'problems' that he might also be having (so, I think, it would not be a good idea.)
Better idea? - If your Mac mini is new yesterday? You could restart with your restore DVD, and erase the drive, and reinstall the original software. Set up, and install Boot Camp to a fresh OS X, which is always a good recommendation for the best results. Of course, back up the files that you need to save before you begin, but I was assuming that with a brand new computer, you don't have much that needs saving.
The reason I suggest this direction - the factory install on your new Mac may not be perfect - rare, but does happen, even on a Mac.
Boot Camp needs 10.4.6, or higher, so the evidence (the software claims you need to update, when you have already done that) suggests that the system may be corrupted in some way. Brand new computer - so, let's make sure by wiping the drive and restoring from the original disks. It's an old Windows idea, but worth doing on a Mac in this case, I think...

and there was me hoping to get away from this. hopefully this is just a random occurance really, but i do seem to have preetty bad luck with this computers...

well i did the OSX re-install and it's worked a dream. no issues at all.
