help me figure out how to formtat external media drive

hi,

totally new to windows and have a dual boot / bootcamp question. i have an intel mac where i run final cut pro and i also need to use avid sometimes. my avid dv xpress pro won't run on an intel mac and is not leopard compatible, so i've created a dual boot system and am able to run avid in windows instead os OS x. what i need to know is how to deal with formatting my external media hard drives for storing video. do i make two partitions, one for using with final cut / mac OS X and one for windows / avid? how do i do this? or is there a way to format an external drive so i can use it for both final cut and avid / windows?

please help me figure out what to do!

thanks!
