xp installation disc unrecognized

Hello,

I just installed os10.5 on my macbookpro and am having what appears to be a fairly common problem. my computer doesn't recognize the xp installation disc. I am using the same xp sp2 disc that worked on tiger, however when i put it into the superdrive my machine only sees it as a blank disc.
what is strange is that if i put it into a firewire dvd drive, it reads it fine, but i can't boot up from an external drive.....
i have tried making various copies of the disc but the results are always the same.
i have been scouting forums for a while and haven't found a solution yet, any new ideas?

perhaps there is a way of tricking the superdrive into reading it?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

You didn't state whether you are using Boot Camp or Parallels or VMware.
Naturally you need to be using one or the other for WindowsXP to be recognized and to be installed.
