Unhappy Parallels causing a lot of trouble

I have Windows XP installed on Parallels and it tries to open every single file. .doc or .wmv, etc are opened with my virtual machine; even non-Windows files are opened like this! This is very annoying as my whole virtual machine turns on if I want to watch a video or something and that takes a lot of CPU speed and turning Parallels off takes a good 2 minutes. How can I let my Mac and my Mac only open the files which it is totally capable of opening? Answers would be much appreciated.

Did you try to contact Parallels directly ? They have a support system.
My current machine is an iMac Core 2 Duo 2.16 GHz 24" and a MacBook Pro 13" with MacOS X 10.6. My oldest Apple was born in 1977.

You need to associate your files with their MacOS X applications.

I do, I go into "Get Info" and then set it to always open with the specific application. The file I changed works but other files with same ending have the same problem still

Ex2bot is a Mac-based automated software bot. Any similarity to Skynet is coincidence. Do not be alarmed.

The last post in that thread seems to sum it up very well.
What about that post is unclear to you?
