Please, I' need help about FH MX &printing.

Dear college,

I have trouble in printing from Freehand MX (11.0) (my system is OSX 10.4.2 in my new iMac G5, and the printer is Epson D88, driver 2.5)

I have succeed in printing with this program at least 2 times, creating a new document and drawing a simple thing such as a colored circle, and then just do "Print"; ok.
But most of the times, even trying to print such a simple document, it doesn't work. It is when i press the preview button, just before pressing "Print", that the program fails, and apears a message saying:"the application FH MX has closed unexpectetly; Mac OSX and the other applications has not been interfered...more or less"

What should i do?
-update a newer version of Freehand MX? reinstall it?
-reinstall the printer?

Thank you very much.

Unhappy

MX is crashing (plainly). Latest version is 11.0.2 available from the Macromedia site.
MX hasn't been updated since at least 10.3.8, and given the major OS structural changes (and a lot of them in the printing mechcanisms) in Tiger, I've come to conclusion (here anyways) that the crashes/printing errors are 'random' or at least prgrammatically caused. I no longer use MX to print, merely to view files, as the program is clearly unstable. Since Adobe have taken Macromedia over, they plainly have no interest in solving the problems it now plainly has, and my gut feeling is that they're are waiting for MX to 'die'; so that their Illustrator can rule the world
Not a solution I know, and just my experience, but take solice in the knowledge that other people have been there already.

Thanks Clivey, more about MX &printing

Tank you very much for your advice, Clivey. It seems to me you know a lot about it.
Now I can give more information about the matter. In fact the problem was constant (and mainly related) with a "complex" document originally created with FH8. I opened it with FH-MX, so i had to serch and link again some images, and try to activate all the used types, using the TYPE-Catalogue utility.

Today I have been doing more tests, and I succeed. There is a thing that i was not controlling the other day, and this is to check duplicated types, looking for those requested, and then do "solve duplicates" in the upper menu.

We must note that the typography management is a problematic key point; i think.

You obviously know more about the operation of MX - I work on the IT side... The operators reported problems with differing levels of document 'complexity' (what is complex anyways? Some would say that just being able to print anything is a complex command :-).
It was noted here that reverting to a Panther machine to print a 'crashing'job in MX worked. The main reason why we haven't moved to Tiger...
Agreed, type control is so important- but I fear that you may be bashing your head against a wall with MX/Tiger... but you get somewhere PLEASE do let me know.

I'm afraid you may be right and I'll be bashing my head...
I thought the problem was fixed, and i was printing some documents well; afterwards, i try to do a new thing that would be normal: click the "preview" and then it fails; now i'm almost sure that it is this command wich doesn't work.
Anyway, i know about computers only as a simple user, not much more, and i'm goin insane with all this...what a shame

By, thanks.
