One of the Macs running 10.5.6 lost its connection to the server and attempts to reconnect via "Finder" get a message "Conncetion failed." The lost Mac and the Server can get ping responses from each other and all was working fine a few days ago. We can't figure out what changed other than that the Mac can't connect. Since I come from the Windows world, I'm not sure how to reinstall the network software.

I have a G3 mac blue. About 4 years ago my ex-husband installed a new hard drive and upped the memory as far as it would go. I am currently using Mac 4.11 system I think. This morning the computer was making an odd noise and wouldn't move off the screen saver mode. I rebooted. When it came back up, the odd noise was there for a minute or so and then stopped. However, it will only access the original hard drive, which I haven't saved anything on for 3 years. How can I find my secondary hard drive? Incidently I wasn't able to access the old hard drive for about 2 years. Sure it would be nice if i could access the both of them but i just want my new one back!! I live in a small town where no one is mac proficient. I replaced the power unit a year ago myself with help from you people. I hope we can fix my computer again! Thanks

G5, 1.8Ghz dual, 10.4.11, 1G. Fleeing a dying internal HD I moved files, including Library, to a smaller internal HD. I now get a 4-5 second delay for all clicks and typing. On startup I'm warned "System extension '/System/Library/extensions/SymDC.kext' is not working, please reinstall." I found a SymDC installer in Library but installation fails.

I replaced the larger HD and Carbon Copied the contents of the smaller disc to it, thinking the delays might be caused by the almost-full smaller disc, but the problem persists.

I'm easily annoyed by delays of all kinds and I could imagine that my Mac has enough personality to be trying to encourage me to develop my patience, but I'd rather just fix this glitch.

Dear All,

I am planning to build a file server (in a cheaper way) by using a Mac mini with 2TB of external HD attached to it (as start). The Mac mini will be running the Mac OS X Server to handle all the user/account and the external HD can be expended with daisy-chain setup when adding extra storage.

Every user will connect to the storage through the Mac mini and user will have to work off the server which mean user will always connected to the server and there will be a lot of network activity and HD activity as user will constantly reading, writing, moving...etc data on the server.

I am a bit concern that this setup will not work and everything will go very slow. Appreciate if anyone can give me some advice and recommendation.

Thanks~

I am trying to install MySQL on a MacBook running 10.6. When I try to install the software I get a message stating that an older version is already running. I thought I had removed the old version an in fact I can't find any file that belongs to MySQL. When I look at "Applications" there is no mention of MySQL. I also opened a terminal session logged in as root and performed a "find" command from the root of the drive looking for anything with "mysql" on it and found nothing. Can someone give me an idea as to what is going on and more importantly how to fix it.

First I hope this is the correct forum to post this question. If not... sorry in advance.

I am trying to figure out what would be the best way to sign my name to an electronic document that was faxed to me while on the road? While on the road I will have to be able receive faxes and contracts and return them signed. I understand that I will have to set up an electronic fax account, and somehow get my signature into a JPG format and transfer it over to a PDF.

Is there a program on the MacBook that can handle this, will I have to buy a program or will I have to jury rig something?

I have the OS X 10.5.8 if this matters.

Thanks for reading.

First, I'm a noob on MACs so forgive the nooby nature of the question.

I'm setting up a printer on a Macbook to use a printer shared from Windows 7. Followed the tutorials I found for the network side of things and that seems to be fine (Mac send unprintable files to the Windows print queue).

The problem is the print driver on the Mac. The printer is a HP PSC 1315. It's not on the list when you Select Drivers during printer setup and even after loading the HP 111 updated, still no joy.

I downloaded the 1315-specific driver package and ran the installation but I have no idea how to find the driver to use during printer setup.

Help!

Thanks
