Ipod / Belkin Voice Memo Upload

I have the belkin voice memo attachment and I tape college lectures. Sometimes when I insert the iPod in the cradle the memo does not automatically upload the memos to iTunes. I have to record subsequent "bogus" memos and THEN it will finally transfer the first memo (and the subsequent memos will remain on the iPod only). Any ideas?
