eMac video input

Now what does an eMac need for video input, I tried googling and got things over my head.

My PC friend laughs at me because he can just buy a $100 card and have video input. But my eMac needs external drive, mainly firewire or USB inputs, but what do I need to input video into my eMac 1.42 ghz machine?

you should be able to go straight from any usb or firewire video device....(eg. camcorder).
or do you want to watch video from another source (dvd, vhs) on your emac?
