New printer

My Epson 740 printer died on me last night. May it rest in peace.

I need a new printer ASAP, but "She Who Must Be Obeyed" (the wife) says I can't spend more than 150 EURO / 175 USD / 100 Sterling.

Can anyone recommend a decent USB colour printer that will cope with simple print jobs (e.g. letters) within this price range? I don't need to print off high quality photos.

I see you are running 10.3.9, same as me.

After a nearly violent 5 year relationship with an HP multifunction printer (HP PSC 750), I decided to part with it and purchase...yep, another HP.

I don't know what I was thinking, but I knew that "return" would not be far back in my mind.

The HP PSC 1510 has been a dream. It runs perfectly on my iMac G5, both for printing and scanning. All software appears to work (far cry from the 750), and both my wife's iMac and my iBook print to it wirelessly (via my iMac) with virtually no set up.

Speed is good, quality of output is better than I need, it is super small for a multi-function, and was very cheap at $91 bucks.

I'm aware through this board that many with Tiger have problems with this unit, but I've had zero issues with it and Panther.

Oh yeah, and my wife digs how the white/gray color scheme compliments the iMac.

Has anyone got a Mac driver for a Konica/Minolta PagePro1400W laser printer? Konica/Minolta don't offer one, as it's sold as a windows printer only.

The Konica/Minolta PagePro 1400W is supported by LinuxPrinting.org. You may install the CUPS .ppd file to see if it works for you.

lbj: Could be a good choice, but incompatabliity with Tiger might be a problem if I upgrade at some point in the future (if 'Herself' allows me that is). However. I have just bought a new Epson scanner, so I don't need that function. Thanks anyway. I very much appreciate your suggestion.

Bobw: I know Epson make high quailty printers at the middle to higher end of the market, but the news on the street is that the low end printers are not as good as they used to be. Again, thanks for your reply.

So I have gone for a Canon Pixma iP4200. Goodness knows whether this was a wise choice, but it was cheap as it was sold as "Open Packaging".
