    Am I getting ripped off???

    Hello,
Last Sat. morning, I opened up my 15" powerboook screen from sleep and in about 10 secs the display went blank on me. I have restarted it several times but the display is very very faint...i can barely see the icons :-(
I am out of warranty :-( and I took it to the apple support center and he told me after 2 days that my lcd needs to be replaced and it would cost about $700 (32,000 Rupees - since I am in Mumbai, India)!
I have done some research on google and it seems to me that the problem could be with the display converter but i am not 100% sure.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Regards,
    LogicMan

It could also be the backlight, but that should not cost that much.

Yep, sounds like the backlight, however I have just had a quote for a backlight repair. Unfortunately the cost would be about $700 as the whole screen has to be replaced.

Golly gosh that is a lot. When my laptops backlight went it cost about £150, but they only replaces the backlight. It was a Toshiba though so i presume macs are different
