Can't use new SATA drive as start up

Hello,

Just purchased a Western Digital Caviar SE 16 400GB drive as an archive/backup drive for my G5. Installed it without incident. Ran all the usual utilities (Diskwarrior, Apple Disk Util., ect.). Drive mounts fine, and I'm able to copy to and from. Ran Carbon Copy Cloner from the OEM drive in the G5 to the new drive- copied everything without a problem.

However, when I tried to use the new drive as the start up disk, the wheel on the Grey start up screen just kept spinning, the fans where running at full speed and it seemed to be making no progress. I let it run for about 15-20 minutes before turning the computer off.

System specs- G5 dual 2ghz, 1.5g ram, 160GB OEM drive, Western Digital Caviar SE 16 400GB (SATA), OSX.4.6

Look forward to any thoughts and insights.

Thanks,

J

That drive is not compatible with the G5's on-board SATA bus:
