PRAM battery

TiBook 1Ghz/60/1gb what exactly does the PRAM battery do before/while the computer boots? having boot problems, no video, no chime...but hard drive. could this be PRAM problem?

Autokey rate
Autokey delay
Speaker volume
Attention (beep) sound
Double-click time
Caret blink time (insertion point rate)
Mouse scaling (mouse speed)
Startup disk
Menu blink count
Monitor depth
32-bit addressing
Virtual memory
RAM disk
Disk cache

So isnt it highly probable that if the PRAM battery is dead, the computer might not recognize its own startup disc?

That's correct. One of the things stored in Pram is the Startup disk.
