Question Older iMac on 10.4.7 Losing Printer on Restart

    Hiya,

Helping my mom out with her older (colortacular ... I think it's even Bondi Blue) iMac, I'm perplexed about why her printer (an Epson Stylus Color 880) doesn't stay in her printer preferences after restart. Each restart requires a resetting of printer preferences and reinstallation of the driver (both the Epson and Gimp versions). The only hint I've seen so far is to reinstall just printer drivers from the OS X CD-ROMs, or to do a complete system reinstall.

    Help?

    Thanks,

    Tess

Have you repaired permissions using Disk Utility (in Applications>Utility folder)?
When you installed the driver and set up the Printer Setup utility, did you set the Epson as the default printer?

Talking Problem Solved w/Archive and Install

Even though I hadn't seen this exact problem on the forum anywhere, I decided to try one of the solutions I saw to other problems with printing -- reinstalling from CD-ROM using Archive and Install, and just choosing to reinstall printer drivers. It seems to have worked; printer selection functions perfectly and the printer stays selected after restarting.
