Xerox 8550 - won't queue printing. What's wrong?

My new Xerox 8550 is working fine and printing.

BUT...

It will only do one job at a time. It won't queue the prints.

If something is printing when you choose "print" for the next document - nothing happens. Second job is ignored.

Searched here, searched the Xerox Support site - nothing found!

8550 is connected by ethernet to the switch between the modem and the G4 Quicksilver. Airport Extreme Base is connected to the same switch.

The 8550 is also the default printer on the iBook G4 which can print OK via wi-fi, but again only one job at a time - no queue.

Help!

Make sure your printer and postscript drivers are up to date. Xerox has a new postscript driver for your printer as of 10/31/06:

A great article on your printer:

Just had a thought too: What kind of docs are you printing? If they are text rich, you might be well served by that postscript update I mentioned.

And the support page for your printer:

Xerox PostScript printers, like other PostScript printers, use the standard MacOS X PostScript driver. Xerox may have an updated version of the optional Phaser 8550 PPD file, but it is strictly optional. It has also updated its printer management utilities, but these are also optional. I would look into the Scheduler and anything else that might impact the priority that your print jobs receive. It is not at all clear which applications(s) under which OS are affected. If the affected OS were MacOS 9, I would suggest enabling background printing. There may also be an special issue with print queues over Wireless-G. Because I don't have wireless, I don't know but, frankly, I doubt it. I do have a Xerox Phaser 8550 DP. It queues just fine.
