Reformat PC Drive to Mac

I have an older Maxtor drive I put into a new case. It's an 80gig USB and Firewire drive with power cable.

Here's the problem. I can see the drive on my mac but not my pc. It's formatted for a pc, I believe but when I get info on it the drive is locked and I only have Read Only permissions to it. Disk Utility can't erase it.

What can I do to erase and reformat this drive so that it's fully mac compatible and has Read/Write permissions for me? (I don't care about the data on the drive).

Have you considered that the hardware might be the problem? Or did you rule that out already?

Drive shows up on my mac, so I don't think it's a hardware problem.
