External HD not recognized. Pls help!

Hello:

I am a newbie and I have searched for my answer but can't seem to locate it. I know this is probably the most asked question by newbies so I really appreciate anyone who will take the time to walk me through this!

I have a western digital external hard drive with tons of wedding images on it. I just switched from pc to mac.

I plug the drive in and nothing happens. I checked to see if it shows up in disc utility or sys profiler and it is not in either spot.

Now what?

Thank you very much for attempting to answer this question!

JC

On you Mac unplug the drive. Then reset the Pram. Also go to the Finder's Preferences and make sure you put a check marks in the display on desktop boxes.

Plus make sure you have a good usb cable too.

Kees Buijs will become famous soon enough
Do you have a new mac ? Older macs might have a problem with e.g. USB 2.0.

Also try the drive on another system and check if it is still okay (if not, maybe a bad cable or worse as jccarley suggests).

Try another USB port on the mac (not through a hub, but directly on the mac). Take off any other equipment from the USB ports.

Good luck, Kees
