Clamshell Issues I recently purchased a used Clamshell iBook G3/300. It had a working 3GB drive and OS9. I wanted to use it as a midi/sample dump device along with an old skool sampler. Didn't work out. So, I decided to install a larger hard drive and use it w/ OSX for those occassions when I needed to travel somewhere and wanted to do a little work, but didn't trust taking my main powerbook. Well, I took it apart by following ifixit.com instructions took out the drive and reinstalled a new one. Well, the Mac starts up, but doesn't see the drive at all. Is there any thing that I could have done to cause this? Any other feedback would be appreciated. Thanks. Homer

If you have the OS 9 Install Disc, have you tried booting off that and launching Drive Set Up to see if the drive is recognised there and then Initialising the new HD?

If it can't be seen to be initialized, make sure the cables are correctly connected and not damaged.

Thanks. Tried the initialization tactic. No luck. Seems as if there is a cable problem or worse. I'm sure it's me. The clamshell worked with it's original 3 GB drive, but that just had to go. Too small. I'll do another run thru and see. Thanks. homershines
