Unhappy Lost all data in external HD :(

Hello Mac Experts,

I am so frustrated. I connected my Seagate portable USB drive into the Mac so I can burn data from the portable drive to a DVD. However, my Mac froze while performing this task. I couldn't access anything, or even restart my Mac. So I ended up restarting the mac by pushing the button in the back. When I turn it back on and then plug in the portable drive, not only does the Mac not recognize it (it does show up in Disk Utility), all data is lost! When I plug the portable drive into my PC, it shows that the drive has no data and that it needs to be formatted. What have I done? Is there no way to recover the data in the portable drive? I am so bummed out.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Angelpoo
