PowerMac G4 won't start

I just tried upgrading my DVDROM to a DVDRW Drive but it wouldn't take. When I plugged in the new drive and started it up, I got the start up sound, but the screen stayed black with the orange power button. I assumed it didn't recognize the new drive, so I tried to put the original DVDROM drive back in. I got the same thing. Black screen, orange power button. This is really driving me crazy because I can't seem to get it around it. I would gladly keep the original drive in if it will keep my computer running. Any suggestions?

Oh, the computer is a PowerMac G4. 400Mhz. 160GB HDD.

I have a PowerMac G4 and this happened to me once before. Try resetting the PMU. Here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=95037
