Can't switch from Epson Scan driver to ScanSnap

I've just started to resume using my ScanSnap S500M in Leopard. I've made sure I installed the latest driver from Fujisitu. When I start the ScanSnap Manager there is a red slash through it and the About box does not indicate that my scanner is recognized (it is on and the cables are firmly connected). Could this be because I also have an Epson scanner installed? Do I need to somehow de-install the Epson to use my Scan Snap? Thanks!

Mac OS X 10.5 MB Pro 3 GB. ScanSnap S500 v. Epson CX5000.
