Question Printer function crash OS X10.4.11

Powerbook G4. Computer doesn't recognise any printer, does not pick up the printers in system in 'add' printer. Anyone hae any idea how to 'reactivate'. When downloading printer drivers (specifically for Lexmark z615 home printer, inkjet) constantly crashes out at final hurdle. Usually and easily recignises standard printers from printer from 'libary', 'receipts' and then just picks up from there on detecting new or usual printer. These files say fro lexmark are there still, but even if you double click these, get same crash pattern. Never had this before so looking for solutions. Thanks. Gregg

Just been through the exercise of restoring my two printers to my eMac after reinstalling Tiger. I had to use the original printer software CDs, nothing else would work. I got the same problem as you - the printers were there but I couldn't add them until I used the original disks.

Thanks - isolated the problem to USBs

Thanks. Have now isolated the problem to USBs. Didn't thknk of this, but realisaed that all system printers there, but crash when loading is related to USBs not working. So now, done all obvious problem solving on the USB, isolated the on set of this problem to after use of Lacie portable storage drive, buit totally stymied on how to resolve. If you or anyone knows if it is possible to re-set USBs, let me know, if not, might be USBs are dead...odd, but no idea what happens then...well yet. Best thanks for your response to mine and pleased yours is now working.

I know that with Xcode Developer Tools there is something called a USB Prober but I admit I don't exactly know how to use it, but maybe it could be useful here?

Download the Developer Tools here but it requires you join up for the free ADC Membership.

What does your System Profiler show when you select USB under Hardware?
