Powerbook won't recognize replacement LCD

Hi all,
My trusty 867 mhz 12" aluminum powerbook took a bad fall, and the LCD cracked. I bought a replacement LCD on eBay and installed it, but I never got an image and the backlight never went on. I figured the new LCD was defective, so I sent it back and got another one. When I tried that one, it had the same problem. The replacement screen was a Phillips LP121X04, and all the sources I can find say that this is compatible with my powerbook. What do I need to do to get my computer to recognize the new LCD? I already tried a PRAM zap and resetting the PMU, but that didn't help.

The computer still chimes, powers up, and by the sound of things loads to the finder. When I put the cracked LCD back in everything works fine, so it isn't a bad cable or inverter. Any ideas?
Thank you.
