Unhappy BIG problem with USB flash and other external memories

Hi, I have a BIG problem with my Mac (Leopard, Black MacBook) everytime I connect a USB Flash Memory or an External HD with a certain amount of memory and then I delete (only when deleting) some of the files inside the external drive, my mac says it still has the amount of memory it had at the beginning. Let me give you an example.

Today I connected a USB flash memory with 215 MB of free space. After copying a music playlist and a PowerPoint presentation my mac told me the USB had 125 MB of free space. Shame for me, I copied the wrong music playlist (of 85 MB of space) so I decided to erased it. After I erased it the mac told me it still had 125 MB of free space. Thinking it was a bug or something like that I disconnected and reconnected the USB. It still told me it had 125 MB. Freaked out and connected it to a PC...it told me the same. I put another playlist (20 MB) the mac now told me I had 105 MB of free space, I deleted it and now told me I had 105 MB. I then tried to put a 200 MB playlist and told me it didn't had enough space...

These is the 3rd USB flash drive it killed and it also killed a 120 GB external memory.

I don't know what to do! Please help!!!

Your friend,
Miguel

Randy Singer will become famous soon enough
How are you "erasing" the files that you are erasing? Do you drag them to the trash and then empty the trash, or do you do it some other way?

Do you dismount your USB drive by dragging it to the trash-can every-time before you detach it?

You need to empty the trash after that... & that should empty the space for you..

Thank You

I didn't knew you had to empty the trash can while the disk is connected.

Thank you very much!
