I've removed tabless drives from MacBooks before. I tried a homemade tab from a strip of clear package tape, and carefully pushed it into the top of the drive. The sticky part caught good enough to pull out the drive. The same trick didn't work the next time I needed to do that - so removed the top case. I made a tab (again, from clear package tape) to leave on the drive to make the next time easier.
You can also try some really thin needlenose pliers, working from one corner, then the other. That may work...
Serendipity is a lucky guess !

If you didn't install the 4 T8 screws in the drive either, then its probably just flopping around in there and might fall right out after removing the RAM/HD bracket.

the home made tab idea seems great. with what kind of tape? i dont think a normal tape is strong enough. where can i have instructions for removing the top case? ok im going to search in google

djackmac. in fact its very inserted, the tab is just for pulling the hard disk.

also do you think its better to have the old disk inserted and transfer the data to the new hd with an usb cable ? or its faster if i install first the new disk on the mac and transfer from the external hd usb cable to my mac?
