| Hi there, I have a NEC PetiScan scanner (it's a tiny scanner about the size of a small book -- great for scanning on the road) that works just great on my iMac DV running OS 9.2, but it doesn't work on my iBook G3/600 running both OS 9.2 and OSX. When I restart my iBook under OS 9.2 and the load up Photoshop and try to run the scanner software, it says it needs to initialize the scanner and then locks up... I'm guessing that either the OS 9.2 on my iBook lacks a certain something, or else the iBook itself just lacks a certain something that would enable the scanner to work... Any ideas? I've tried VueScan but it doesn't support any NEC stuff... and NEC has pretty much end-of-life'd the PetiScan a couple of years ago it seems. If anyone out there got their PetiScan to work under OSX would you please let me know how ya did it? The PetiScan is perfect for travelling along with my iBook -- I mean, besides the whole "doesn't work" part. ![]() -s |

| How much memory is installed on the iBook and how much memory do you have allocated for Photoshop? On the iBook, go to the Photoshop folder and click once on the main icon (the one you would double click to start it), then go to the file menu and select Get Info>Memory. The preferred memory box is what you need to check out. I suggest you give it 5,000k more that what is there - hence more than the minimum or the suggested. Close the window, then give it a try.

| PetiScan working I finally got my PetiScan to work on a PowerBook G3 & iBook G4. First I made sure I had the 'System Folder' from the OS9 on my Hard Dr. Then I just installed Presto PageManager. I drug the 'Install PetiScan' from the disk onto my desktop & installed it from there, after removing the CD. Then I manually put the plug-in into the PageManager plug ins folder. Started up PageManager & under 'File' clicked on 'Select Source' & chose plug-ins, NOT the Twain. Then clicked on "Aquire" & to my surprise the scanner popped right up. I'm not sure what made it work but it does & that's what matters. I'm using OS X.4.8. Hope it works for you. PS. I couldn't get it to work from the install CD |
