Can I add a HD in the place of the ZIP in a B&W G3 ?
__________________ My current machine is an iMac Core 2 Duo 2.16 GHz 24" and a MacBook Pro 13" with MacOS X 10.6. My oldest Apple was born in 1977. It shouldn't be a problem. You would need to decide if you want to replace the front cap to a plain one. p.s. just make sure you set the new drive to slave.

I currently have no ZIP... just the empty slot so the cap is ok.

Any idea if I loose a lot in performances ?

Sure, just set the jumpers on the HD ion Slave position (you might even be able to find one of the original blue blank covers to replace the slotted one.

As long as you set the additional drive to slave, and format the drive, you'll be fine. If you use Classic, you will need to use drive setup from the OS 9 CD. Otherwize, just go to the Utilties>Disk Utility

Here is the status: I found a better (in my sense) solution: I bought a cheap Seagate 40GB 7200 HD ($66) and a flat cable supporting 2 IDE drives... and I installed it on the UltraATA driver. Only important thing: make the new drive slave (no jumpers). I had some more problems with porting the 5 users to the new drive, but finaly it was ok. I just recreated the account after having installed MacOSX on the new drive... and I created these in the same order as on the old 6GB drive.
