| Hey everyone - I just bought 512 mb of RAM and just tried installing it, but I don't think my Mac's recognizing it. I have a 1 ghz 17" iMac. I looked at "About this Mac" to see if it said 768 MB, but it still says 256 and says the slot I put my RAM in is empty, even though I put it in there. I have what's called PC2100 (DD4266) memory which I don't think is especially designed for iMacs, but the helper at the store said this is what I should get. So how do I get my Mac to recognize my memory? Thanks for any help. |

| According to Apple History, your iMac uses PC133 RAM. PC2100 will not work in your iMac; you should pick up a stick of 133. Just for grins, though, make sure the RAM is fully seated in your iMac's RAM slot. I installed a RAM chip in my G3 iMac a few weeks ago, and it took me a couple tries to really get the stick to settle into the slot to where I could close the clasps. Make sure everything is snug and secure, but don't force it or you may break it.
