Need Help buying a projector

I am considering buying a projector to help in teaching Macintosh classes. I do not know much about them other than they are exspensive. I do want to spend alot of money but want to get a decent one.
What are the parameters to look for?
I see the parameter lumnes alot. I imagine it has to do with brightness what is a min number to start from?
What kind of resolution is decent?
There seems to be alot model and manufactorers ranging in price from 999 and up.
Any info would be appreciated

A LUMEN is a unit of measurement of light. Its a metric equivalent to foot-candles in that they are measured at an object you want to illuminate.
Divide the number of lumens you have produced, or are capable of producing, by 12.57 and you get the candlepower equivalent of that light source.

The higher the lumens, the brighter the projection. those dark pictures and backgrounds will appear clearly.
You also must consider the contrast ratio. 300:1 is passable. 700:1 gives you a superior projection.
The resolution is generally 1024 X 768 XGA. If you have detailed images to project, you don't want to go lower than that.
If you are planning on carrying it from place to place, you will be concerned with the weight.

ViewSonic and Epson makes some nice ones.

I was recommended for buying advice for a projector for my synogogue, and I'd need to find something that can connect to a PC and to a VCR. I looked on Epinions, and they had a couple different kinds of projectors... what kind should I look into, and what specific models would you guys recommend?

This is to replace a crappy old TV for movie nights. I'm going to be recommending a good sound system as well, but I don't need any advice on that; I know a good deal about sound systems.

I know how easy it is to spend some one else's money. First, make sure of the amount the synagogue has to spend.

Next, check out the price range from epinions. You want a machine that can handle digital(computer) and analog (VCR)
