problem with cd-rw in imac flat panel

I am a new poster to this forum and I hope someone here can help me. My issue is with a powerPC G4 700 MHz 15" flat panel imac. The cd-rw will not mount commercially produced cd's...in other words, disk warrior, system software that came with the puter ect. IT WILL mount discs I've burned myself. When I put in a "commercial" disk, I can hear it start spinning a couple of times, then the tray opens and the cd comes out. I've tried hitting the c key and restart before it spits it out again, but the imac starts up normally, and the cd tray just opens. Any ideas? Right now, if something goes wrong, I can't reboot from a cd...
Much appreciation,
---Mike

Welcome to the forum

First, check those CDs to make sure there is no finger prints or smudges on them.

Now check the System Preferences>CDs & DVDs Make sure ignore is not set. Go to the Finder menu>Preferences and make sure you have CDs, DVDs etc check marked under General.

One more thing, are you set as Administrator in your User accounts? Try adding a user and make it Admin. Then log in as that user and give it a try.
