Angry DVD won't mount on desktop

I did a search, I swear... so hope I didnt miss any possible answers. If so, just point me in the right direction.

Anyway, I have a G4/450 running a Sonnet 800 mhz processor. Still using Panther (10.3.8). Pioneer 108 burner. Everything has been just peachy until recently, when I noticed blank CDs/DVDs don't mount on the desktop. When I use Toast, the discs are recognized and burnable. I checked the Preferences (in Finder) and my settings are correct. Same for System Prefs. How can I get the CDs/DVDs to mount on the desktop so I can have a choice of using Disc Burner or Toast??

Thanks in advance...

Solution for Blank Discs Not Appearing on Desktop

Here's what worked for me which I discovered quite by accident. (Serendipity?) I happened to control-click on the desktop in order to create a new folder and lo-and-behold what is the very next item under "New Folder" but and item I had not noticed before: "New Burn Folder." I clicked on it and a new folder with the burn icon on appeared on the desktop. Hmmm. I inserted a new disc and even though the disc did not show on the desktop I did not get the error message this time. I dragged a few items into the New Burn Folder, double-clicked it to open it to make sure the items were in the folder and in the upper right corner there's a button with "Burn" on it, clicked on it and successfully burned a CD. I inserted a new blank CD and this time it appeared on the desktop. I've since burned several discs without a glitch. I haven't burned a DVD yet but they now show on the desktop when inserted. Hope this works for you. Also see this thread on the Apple boards. http://discussions.info.apple.com/we...9@.68af5c01/15
