Troubleshooting Internet

Is this in the right area to post this? Anyway, my new 733 G4 only connects at 31,200 max. My PC with a USR modem constantly gets 44,000 on the same dial up. Why? Is there anything I should check in settings somewhere on the G4? Anything I can do to improve connection speed? Thanks.
