I've never opened up an emac, but I would imagine that this would not work: on a newer iMac I opened, the display cables were integrated and you could not detach them.
If you want to use your eMac as a basic second monitor (No games, movies), you might want to look into this: http://www.realvnc.com/

Another cool thing to do would be to use Synergy, which allows you use move your mouse between two systems as if they were the same system.

Hi -first post, nice to be here...

I can't understand why anyone would want to use the (terrible) crt monitor on my old imac! Does anyone know if there is a safe way of disabling it when I plug an lcd display into the external port?
