Haven't followed your links, but on engadget etc., there's been talk of at least 3 separate and software-only approaches that obviously work. I'm pretty sure that Apple will have to address these hacks with firmware updates, but I guess the cat's out of the bag now and we'll see updates from Apple and updates to the "freeing" process battle each other into the future. People who want to keep their iPhone from locking up will have to stay away from Apple's updates until the unlocking process has been updated etc.

Either way: Great news. I'll wait to see whether the European version is different hardware.
