Palm has died - getting an iPhone. App advice needed.

I'm pretty certain that I will be getting a iPhone 3GS for my birthday next week.

I was going to get an iPhone later in the year when I retire, but this week my Palm TX has died.

So I'm looking to use the iPhone mainly as a Palm replacement until I stop work and hand the company mobile back. I've had a company mobile phone since 1989 and so paying for my own calls will be a new experience!!

So, what apps should get for the iPhone to replace the "Microsoft Office" clone software on my Palm? Currently using Dataviz "Documents to Go" software which links with the Mac quite well. This will read/write to Excel, Word etc. It will also display .pdf /.jpg etc. So, something like "Preview on the Mac.

I assume that iCal/AddressBook/Memo stuff will be on the iPhone already - or am I wrong.

The other thing I use on the Palm is handwritten text entry rather than typing. And "Notebook" which is a hand drawn sketchpad.

As usual, all help gratefully received!
