Unhappy Mac iPod freezes when connected to PC

I have a G5 at home that my iPod is synched to. At work though I have a PC laptop, I would like to be able to plug in my ipod at work, mainly to able to charge when i forget to do it the night before. When I plug it in though I connect it and it immediately freezes, when i unplug it I have to hold the select and menu buttons to reset it to get it to work???

Most likely your iPod is formatted in the HFS+ format, which is only compatible with your Macintosh.

If you wish to use the iPod on both the PC and the Macintosh, you'll need to reformat the iPod in FAT32 format using the iPod Software Updater for Windows on your Windows machine. This will completely wipe out the music/photos/videos on the iPod, though, so make sure you've got a backup.

What happens if you put the iPod to sleep (hold down play for a few seconds), then connect it to your PC to just charge it? Also, are you using FireWire or USB for that iPod?
