Google video erased iPod -- help!

So I downloaded a video on Google in the iPod/PSP format, which means that it's already in .mp4 right? I followed the Google instructions for uploading the video onto my 60Gig iPod using (the exceedingly cr@ppy) iTunes 7. They said to click the "Sync movies" button under the Movies tab.

A scary window popped up threatening to remove all my music and replace it with the movie, and asking if I really wanted to do that. I hesitated, but then thought, "Hang on, that doesn't make sense. Why would it remove my music when I only have 7Gigs of music on and the video I want to upload is only 50 minutes long?" I thought maybe it meant that it would remove music to make room for the movie if there wasn't enough space, and that since there clearly was plenty of space, then there was nothing to be worried about.

So I clicked OK.

And all my music disappeared. All of it. All my meticulously created playlists. Hours spent transferring my CDs to digital format. Everything. Gone.

And to make matters worse, the video I did all that for doesn't seem to be on the damned thing either. Under the Movies tab on ITunes, the name of the video I downloaded is in the box, but I can't do anything to it. It's unclickable. When I try to access Movies from the iPod itself, nothing comes up. I just have a very empty iPod.

Why on earth would the geniuses up at Apple design software that would do this???

It's easy enough to put the music back in, I guess, although re-creating the playlists will take forever. But I would still really like to get that video (and a couple others) from Google to the 'Pod. Anyone have any ideas?

Humm, so I take it that you did not use iTunes to get your music onto you ipod in the first place? Is that the case?

Is the music still in iTunes?

Nah, the music is all still in iTunes, although the (very long) playlists I had created on the iPod (which for some inexplicable reason iTunes will not allow me to export onto my desktop -- another source of frustration) are all gone and will take hours to recreate.

But how can I get this video onto my iPod without wiping it out again?

I have my music in iTunes, my video in iTunes and when the iPod's connected, it synchs. Nothing that I have to do manually about it...?

I'm trying to figure out why your iTunes asked you to replace the things you've had on your iPod with that _one_ movie file... It doesn't seem like iTunes would ever want to do that, would it?

I know, that's what I thought. But I was wrong.

And again, I reiterate that despite having erased all my music, the video itself wasn't even uploaded.
