Only a partial reset! Rubbish....

Hi,
My computer and iTunes can see the iPod and the tunes on it but my iPod wont turn on. I have tried resetting my 4th Gen 40GB iPod but once the iPod whirls to life and the apple logo appears, it disappears whirs for a 10 seconds or so and then goes dead again. It is deffinately fully charged ... any ideas?
