syncing ipod

I have my music collection on a windows network. I only recently added my ibook on it and syncing my ipod(pre network) added about 66% of my music. I recently changed my itunes music folder to the network music folder (windows network) but syncing my ipod hasn't increased the amount of music on my ipod. I tried to sync my ipod from the windows isde of the network, but it keeps asking me to format it. Since I use my ipod as a semi back up for my ibook, this is not an option.
When trying to import files, it seems as though I must import each file rather than the folder.
What must I do to get all my music on my ipod, that won't be time consuming, but easy?

buy another ipod or get one thats used

i ran into the same thing but i had a 3g 15gig and a 5g 30gig

the 3g i use for my ibook and apple stuff and the 5g for all my windows crap --- i do have some issues about authorizing sometimes but i can get past that --- its only if i put new music from another source on my 5g and want to put it on my ibook
