Unreal size of photos in iPod Photo

Greetings,

I recently synced all my photos with my iPod Photo 60GB. The folder has a little more than 4GBs worth of photos, but they end up taking almost 25GBs in the iPod and now I see that iTunes created a folder of the same size in my Pictures folder, taking up five times the space my Picture folders takes.

Is there something wrong that I did? Why does it takes so much space?
