menu+play keys dont work

Hello all,
i tried using my ipod after a long time, assuming it was charged. but nothing appeared when i clicked the play button. So i tried connecting it to my xp machine. It just flashed with the status of battery and the screen, and after that it started blinking screen, eventually settled on a apple picture on the screen.
But still not recognised by my machine. So i tried resetting it using the play and the menu button. And now the apple screen is gone, but nothing else works. resetting it again also doesnt help . I have connected it to the computer USB for 6 hours but still i cannot see sign of life.

Can anyone suggest what should i do . I have tried the 5 R's but none of them works.

Thanks

1. What iPod is it.
2. Does a light come on at all?
3. can you hear the Hard drive trying to read? (fast whizzing sound +clunking)
4. Try this:

Step 1. Plug your iPod in to the mains
Step 2. Hold menu and action (middle button)
Step 3. if it seems to make a fast whizzing sound with clunking hold action+previous for around 10 seconds.
Step 4. your iPod should have a white screen displaying 'SRV Diag Boot'
Step 5. Enter Manual Test.
Step 6. Scroll down to 'IO' Click action.
Step 7. Scroll down to 'Wheel' Click action.
Step 8. Scroll down to 'Key Test' Click action.
Step 9. Press the buttons that are faded. (They should turn black)

If they turn black then there is no problem with your click wheel, there is a problem with your firmware. If they do not turn black then there is a problem with your click wheel.

If they turn black hold down Menu+Action to reboot.
Then hold Play/Pause+Action this will start 'Disk Mode'
when your iPod displays the big tick. Connect your iPod to your computer.

Use the iPod updater and restore the iPod.

I hope this works.
Good Luck

EDIT: By the way to reset your iPod you hold menu+action.
