locking up

my iPod locked up the other day, and it's only 3 weeks old. My buddy who works at circut city says they all do that, and quite frequently! his tip was to let the battery go dead then re-charge it, and it works. It did go back to working, but its going to be a bit frustrating if that happens a lot. others having the same trouble. any remidies?

I think I've had mine lock up about once in the last year. To make things amusingly less deterministic, iPod software updates are available every once in a while.
