USB charging

Hey, I just got my first iPod today and I was wondering, if your ipod is disconnected (eg. Connected via USB but your able to safely disconnect) does the ipod still charge?

EDIT: ignore that, it shows the charging icon when its connected. Common sense... it goes a long way haha
