External Hardrive Dilemma!

Okay, I've got a 50GB external hardrive and what I've done is I've installed Mac OSX 3.9 onto it. For those who don't know, it allows me to boot from the external and access files, programs, folders etc...

Anyway, I installed iTunes and such onto my external and basically stored all my iPod's music on it... This allowed me to free up space on my Mac's hardrive Ingenious, I know... Only problem is that the hardrive stopped working!

So here I am, asking for your opinion on what to do... By the way, there's 20GB of music/videos/photos on my iPod and don't want to lose any of it! So what free programs are available to transfer songs/videos/photos from my iPod to Mac?

Before you all try to flame me at once, I'd like to say that I have tried version tracker, only I couldn't find anything due to lack of knowledge in what I'm looking for...

Thanks for all help!

I've never had to do it myself (I keep my music backed up on DVD-Roms) but I've heard Senuti is good for retrieving songs back off your iPod:
