Firewire with a Classic

I just got a Firewire-cable to connect my iPod Classic 60GB to my iMac G4 (don't have USB 2.0 on it), but when I connected it it just asked me to switch to a USB-cable, it said that Firewire wasn't supported.

so, my question, is there any way to connect them (other than USB 1.0)

Post No Firewire on Gen 5 iPods and later.

Nope. Afraid not. The last iPod to support both USB2 and Firewire was the iPod Photo. The Generation 5 and later iPods are all USB2 only.
