iPod Shuffle not appearing in iTunes or on Mac

Hey guys,

I have been using my iPod Shuffle (2nd Gen) for about 4 months. It has been working great up until recently. After completely discharging the battery I plugged it into the dock using the same USB port I have been using. The orange light flashes 3 times and then goes blank. Neither of my Macs will recognize the device, not on the desktop and not in iTunes. I have tried all the tips form the Apple support page to no avail.

This seemed to have happened before and somehow it managed to right itself, but so far I have not had such luck. Any help or ideas would be appreciated. BTW this is a genuine Apple device, purchased it from Apple.
