Headphone jack

Hi, my iPod Classic headphone jack is kind of broken. I know it is my fault because I wrapped the earphones around w/o unplugging, and i did it tightly.

If I bring it back to the applestore to have repair on it, will they know it is broken from my fault, or will they think its just a defect?

is it defiantly the jack, as these rarely break, it could be a dead wire in the headphones, this happened with my shure e2c headphones when i did a similar thing
