Changing account from POP to IMAP?

I just got an iPod Touch and I'd like to use it as my portable computer. Can I change my current POP account to an IMAP account and keep the same email address? If so, how would I do that?

I am no specialist on this but i think it depends on your email provider.

Some providers only allow for pop when downloading, some allow both.

So maybe you can already do IMAP.

For the record POP is when email is downloaded to your computer and not stored on the server, whilst IMAP is when a copy of the email is stored on the server.

Can anyone complement this with anything better?

Not much more to say -- that's pretty spot on.

The only thing we can say is to contact your ISP or email provider and inquire about using IMAP instead of POP3 -- there's really nothing anyone here can do, as it all depends on who provides your email to you.
